1. What is house call grooming?
House call dog grooming is a service where a professional groomer comes directly to you to groom your dog. They bring all the tools and equipment necessary to groom inside of your own home for a comfortable and familiar environment for your pet. House call groomers will typically bathe your dog in the clients bathtub or sink and groom them in a space provided by the client within the home. The groomer will clean up and disinfect everything afterwards.
2. What services are included in house call dog grooming?
Our full groom package includes bathing, brushing, nail trimming, ear cleaning, sanitary trim, paw pad trim, teeth brushing, full body haircut & styling. Our bath packages includes all the same things except a full body haircut.
There are a few add on services if you so choose. We do offer nails as a stand alone service and a touch up package for in between grooms.
3. How long does a grooming session take?
The duration of a grooming session can vary based on the dog's size, breed, and grooming needs, but it generally takes between 1 to 3 hours give or take.
4. Do I need to be home during the grooming appointment?
For your very first groom with Fairytale grooms, it is Mandatory for you to be home so we can preform a proper consultation and discuss any specific grooming requests you may have. Since it is the first time I will be meeting your pet and familiarizing myself with their behavior and needs, it is important their pet parent is present in the case that assistance is needed. Once the pet, groomer and pet parent relationship has been established, and I am familiar with your desired haircut and preferred grooming location within the home, you are no longer required to be present for future grooms. In fact, many pet parents prefer to take advantage of house call grooming services for that very reason. While youre off working or taking care of important matters, your pet can be getting pampered in the comfort of your own home without you having to worry about drop off and pick up.
5. What should I do to prepare for the grooming appointment?
Ensure your dog is in a safe and accessible area.
Decide on a space you would like your groomer to groom your pet. Ensure theres enough space for a small portable grooming table and that it is a quiet space free of distractions.
We bring all the tools necessary for grooming, all we require is one towel per pet. So please lay those out in the desire grooming area.
Although I do a good job of cleaning up mid groom and after, I'd recommend clearing out any important items that you really dont want to get hair on just in case.
Inform the groomer about any specific concerns or needs your dog may have.
6. Is house call grooming more expensive than traditional grooming?
House call grooming may have a higher service fee due to the convenience and personalized attention provided plus travel. However, prices can vary based on location and services offered.
7. What if my dog is nervous or aggressive?
Inform the groomer in advance if your dog has any behavioral issues. Professional groomers are trained to handle anxious or aggressive dogs and can take extra precautions to ensure a safe grooming experience. We are always willing to try and help, if we determine the dog is too anxious or aggressive to the point of harming themselves or the groomer we may recommend a vet sedated groom.
8. How often should my dog be groomed?
The frequency of grooming depends on the dog's breed, coat type, and individual needs. Generally, dogs should be groomed every 4 to 8 weeks. Closer to 4 weeks if you prefer your pets coat long and fluffy and up to 8 weeks if you normally get short cuts that take a while to grow.
9. Do you offer grooming for all dog breeds?
All dog breeds and ages are welcome at fairytale grooms as long as they are 50 pounds and under. Dogs over 50 pounds may be accepted under special circumstances, please reach out to us for any questions
10. Do you offer a discount for using our water and electricity?
When starting our house call business we took our time to research many things to ensure the best service and pricing for our clients. I was curious about this very question and used both water and waste calculators and electric energy use calculators to figure out the cost.
On average we use about 5 gallons of water or less per dog. Our dryer runs for maybe 15mins - 1 hr max depending on hair length and coat type. Interestingly enough to run 5 gallons of tap water in the united states averages about $0.02 - $0.08 cents. As for electricity, in Orlando residential rates average at $0.15 - $0.17 per kilowatt hour meaning that for a 2400 watt pet dryer running at the maximum time of 1 hour cost a total of $0.37 - $0.41 per session. Since the total average cost of water and electric averages to less than $1 per pet we do not offer discounts.
We do understand that house call grooming may not be for everyone and if you'd prefer to not use your water and electric, a salon environment may be more suitable for you.
11. How do I book an appointment?
To submit an appointment request simply fill out this form.
12. Does my pet need to be vaccinated?
Although we recommend that your pet is up to date on all vaccines, the main vaccine that is mandatory is the rabies vaccination.
